A 17-year old boy is dead following an assault in Claremorris, Co. Mayo.
The boy is believed to have died following an alleged assault which took place at Claremount Manor on the Knock Road in Claremorris at roughly 3am.
The boy, who suffered fatal injuries during the incident, was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to RTE, a male juvenile has been arrested as part of the investigation and is being held in Claremorris Garda Station.
The area has been sealed for examination, and the body remains at the scene.
The Office of the State Pathologist has been notified.
It is believed the boy was originally from eastern Europe, but had been living in Mayo for a number of years.
