Nothing says ‘Merry Christmas’ quite like free money.
The feeling of putting your hand in your pocket and finding a €5 note that you’d forgotten about is a great. Rolling up to take money from your personal bank account, that’s already feeling the stress of the festive season, and being offered free money, well, that is the stuff dreams are made of.
Those dreams came true for folk in Fallowfield, Manchester, after a Tesco cash machine began malfunctioning on Wednesday evening.
During the error, which is said to have lasted around one hour, the machine offered double the amount of money requested by the user.

It wasn’t long before the news of the technical glitch spread and large queues began to form.
According to The Metro, the’financial damage’ is currently being assessed by Tesco Bank.
Mark Thomas, a spokesperson for the bank, told reporters that the ATM machine was (unsurprisingly) empty.
“We’re putting right the error made by the cash machine and will have it up and running normally again as soon as possible”, he said.
