A woman who went in search of a missing child she heard crying out for their daddy was left red-faced when it turned out to be a parrot called Ralphie.
The woman from Fairfield, Conneticut, said how she heard faint cries “Daddy, Daddy” and began searching the area with hopes of finding a lost child.
After searching the local area, roads and shrubbery, it was only after the woman looked up did she realise it was a parrot stuck in the trees that were behind the cries for help.
The large green parrot had been mimicking a child from the area.
The woman contacted the local animal welfare shelter, who with the help of the fire brigade, were able to rescue the bird from a 25 foot tree.
After identifying its owner as a resident who lived one mile away, the shelter took the bird to be reunited with its relieved owner.
According to the Animal Welfare, the parrot would not stop talking on the journey back home sporting an impressive vocabulary of words including “hello”, “what” and “daddy.”
