Three teenagers died during a reported crush as they tried to enter a disco.

Large crowds were apparently attempting to push their way into a disco at the Greenvale Hotel in Cookstown, Tyrone, when the incident occurred.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said “an extensive police investigation” has begun after the tragic incident at the Greenvale Hotel in Cookstown, Co Tyrone, at about 9.30pm on Sunday.

According to reports, assistant chief constable, Mark Hamilton, spoke at the scene saying that their main focus was to investigate the crush and what happened.

“Our preliminary investigations show there was a crush towards the front door of this hotel, and in that crush people seem to have fallen.

“There seemed to be a little bit of struggling going on to get people up off the ground and that might explain also why there was a report of some fighting.”

He also confirmed that the three teenagers dead were a 17-year-old girl, a 17-year-old boy and a 16-year-old boy.

The PSNI are also urging anyone with footage to hand it over to the police instead of posting it on social media.
