TV3 weatherman predicts six inches of snow could hit on St Patrick’s Day

He warned that it will be "bitterly cold".

TV3's Deric Ó hArtagáin has predicted that the snow will be hitting Ireland once again this week - just in time for St Patrick's Day. The weatherman also shared a graphic on Twitter, showing that up to six inches of snow may fall in some areas of the country by Sunday morning. The photo, originally from Weather.US, shows that the Leinster region would primarily be affected by the snowfall. https://twitter.com/deric_hartigan/status/973585823441543169 He captioned the post:

"So looks like snow will be back for #StPatricksDay Mainly for East & SE once again. "Kicking off Sat eve into Sunday; not as bad as last time & it'll be bitterly cold."

His latest post comes after he shared a warning that the Beast from the East could make a big return for St Patrick's Day weekend. https://twitter.com/deric_hartigan/status/973300214512709632 But a spokesperson for Met Éireann told the Irish Sun that it was still too early to forecast how much snow or sleet would fall over the weekend. He added:

"It’s not certain exactly what’s going to happen Saturday night, Sunday. “We have some information here showing little or no precipitation and we have other charts showing there will be some precipitation in the form of sleet or snow. “Until we get closer to the time, we won’t be commenting on any third party information. “At the moment we don’t have enough information to solidly base a forecast. “It’s going to be cold, that’s for sure, it’s going to be breezy."

The spokesperson explained that in other bad weather events, where there had lots of snow, it had all been "in unison and all in agreement in advance." He added:

"We’re waiting until we get more solid information before we make a judgement call on that. That won’t be today or tomorrow.”
