Two people have been arrested following an alleged homophobic assault on a teenager in Yorkshire.

An investigation was launched by Humberside Police in Hull yesterday after photos of the 18-year-old emerged on social media.

The images were shared on Facebook by her brother, Stevie-Leigh Ansell, and showed the woman with a bloodied face, visibly in distress.

She was taken to hospital following the incident.

A 21-year-old and a 16-year-old woman have been arrested in connection with the alleged assault. Police are investigating the incident as a hate crime.

“A 21-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with an alleged assault on another woman in Hull,” reads a statement.

“An 18-year-old woman was allegedly assaulted between 3 and 4pm and sustained facial injuries which needed hospital treatment.

“The arrested woman who is from Hull has been arrested on suspicion of actual bodily harm and possessing a controlled drug.”

Sky News reports that police later confirmed that a 16-year-old girl had also been arrested.

Both remain in police custody.
