
Two men have been arrested after Miss World Contestant Maria Jose Alvarado and her sister Sofia Trinidad were found dead.
The Honduras beauty queen (19), who was due to compete in the upcoming Miss World in London, and her sister (23) had been missing for almost a week. They were last seen leaving a party in Santa Barbara on Thursday (November 13th).
According to BBC News the chief of the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Leandro Osorio, said that their bodies were found near River Aguagua in Cablotales village.
Plutarco Ruiz, who is believed to be the boyfriend of Ms Trinidad, and another man called Aris Maldonado have been detained. They may have been the last people to see them alive.
A car and weapons have also reportedly been seized as part of the ongoing investigation.
UPDATE (8.20am, November 20th): The boyfriend of Sofia Trinidad has allegedly confessed to killing the two women.
According to Sky News, a heated argument broke out following the party during which Plutarco Ruiz shot the two women.
It is believed that he became jealous after Sofia started dancing with another man at the birthday party where the women were last seen.
He shot her and then Maria Jose when she tried to escape. Their bodies were found buried beside a river in Santa Barbara.
A second man was arrested and police are said to be looking for more suspects.
