The incident happened early on Friday morning.

Two people were taken to hospital after a Luas struck a truck on the Red Line in Dublin early on Friday morning.

The incident happened at the Cheeverstown section of the track in Tallaght.

Shortly after 6am the alarm was raised and six units of the fire brigade attended the scene – the two people injured were believed to have suffered spinal injuries.

The collision led to congested traffic in the area, with Dublin Bus accepting valid Luas tickets.

The Irish Independent reports that the truck was driving towards Tallaght when it hit the Luas crossing its path alongside the Katherine Tynan Road.

As a result, the lorry was dragged by the Luas and wedged between the Luas and a set of railings on a traffic island.

AA Roadwatch said: “Following an incident involving a Luas and a truck, the Red Line is not running between Saggart and Belgard and will only operate between Tallaght and the Point.”
