He’s known to many of us as the cheeky, outgoing backstage reporter on RTE’s The Voice but Irish presenter Eoghan McDermott has revealed that he previously struggled with self-harm in a brave YouTube post this week.
The 30-year-old posted the five-minute video to the social networking site after recently agreeing to promote a new event for Pieta House, an Irish organisation that deals with suicide prevention and self-harm awareness. In the clip, McDermott reveals that he turned to self-harm a number of years ago following a difficult break-up and discusses his experiences, urging men to find help and overcome the stigma of speaking out.
We can imagine that this confessional video was extremely difficult to film so kudos to the presenter for sharing his own experience in order to encourage others to feel more comfortable about asking for help. Help spread the message and do your bit to break the cycle by sharing the video with the men in your life, whether a significant other, brother, or friend.
