Weather: Sunday will be warm… and next week Ireland will be as hot as Spain

Get the barbecue going!

Gillian Fitzpatrick

This is not a drill.

Following what felt like a loooooong winter of Narnia proportions… it seems that Sunday will actually be pretty balmy.

Granted, April 15 is late in the year for spring to finally emerge (at this stage we’ll just take what we can get) but Met Eireann reassures that we can expect temperatures to hit – wait for it – 15C.

“On Sunday morning, rain in Leinster and Ulster will gradually clear northeastwards,” Met Eireann states. “Sunshine and showers will follow.”

However, if that doesn’t quite cut it for you, fear not, because next week Ireland will be as hot as SPAIN.

On Thursday, both Dublin and Barcelona will be around the 18C/19C mark… which will do very nicely indeed. And present indication suggests that – get the barbecue lit – the mild conditions will last until next weekend.

Here’s a quick summary of the week ahead:

Monday:

Mostly dry with some bright spells and just the odd shower but it will become cloudy with rain turning persistent and heavy in the western half of the country and staying somewhat drier until later in the east. 11C to 13C during the day and 9C or 10C at night.

Tuesday:

Tuesday will start cloudy with further heavy and persistent rain in the west which will gradually ease and some bright or sunny spells will develop later. Temperatures of 12C to 14C during the day. Tuesday night will become mostly dry later with temperatures of around 10C.

Wednesday and Thursday:

It will be mostly dry on Wednesday and Thursday with good sunny spells and just the odd shower. It will turn milder with day time temperatures in the mid to high teens and winds ease as high pressure builds from the east.
