She is now in custody.

A woman who appeared in court last night was charged with the murder of her two children following a car fire in Westmeath two weeks ago.

Lynn Egar from Winetown, Rathowen, Co Westmeath appeared before a special sitting of Mullingar District Court on Thursday evening.

On September 9th, five year old Thelma Dennany and two year old Mikey Dennany died in a car fire which occurred on the Coole to Multyfarnham road.

The children’s mother was also in the car at the time, but she survived the tragedy and received treatment in hospital.

Following the death of both Thelma and Mikey, a Garda investigation was launched.

Earlier this week, Garda Commissioner Drew Harris launched a criminal investigation into the car fire that claimed their lives.

He confirmed their deaths are being treated as suspicious.

According to RTE, Detective Sergeant David Donnelly of Mullingar Garda Station gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution and Egar made no comment.

She has now been remanded into custody at the Dochas Centre in Mountjoy Prison and is due to appear before Athlone District Court next Wednesday via video link.
