The below news piece is from August 2014.

A woman in her 50s has died after she tripped and fell in front of a train at Raheny DART Station earlier today.

The woman, who has not yet been named, was waiting for a northbound DART commuter train at around 1.45pm when she tripped fell onto the tracks.

It’s believed that a woman on the platform waved to alert the driver of the oncoming train but as the train was not due to stop at Raheny and was travelling at a high speed, he could not stop in time.

The woman, who is believed to have lived near Raheny Station, was hit by the train and rushed to Beaumont Hospital but subsequently died from her injuries.

Irish Rail this evening offered its sympathies to the victim’s family and friends and said that the driver would receive counselling and support following the incident.

“Despite the efforts of the driver who applied the emergency brake and a young woman on the southbound platform who also alerted the driver to the incident, it was not possible to stop the train before it struck the woman,” a spokesman said.

“Customers on board the train remained on board throughout, but were moved to the rear of the train away from where the emergency services were assisting the woman.”
