A couple in China have been reunited with their daughter – who went missing when she was just three years old – after searching for her for 24 years.

Wang Mingqing and his wife Liu Denying were working as fruit sellers in the city of Chengdu when their little girl Qifeng went missing in 1994.

According to The Guardian, her dad had went to a nearby stall to get some change for a customer and left the little girl alone.

When he returned, she had disappeared – and the couple spent the next quarter of a century looking for her.

RTÉ report that Mr Wang took a job as a taxi driver a few years ago to try and widen the search, handing out leaflets and cards to his passengers as well as using a sign in his rear window.

The search eventually caught the attention of a portrait expert at the criminal investigation bureau who offered to make up a sketch of what the little girl would look like as an adult.

The photo was distributed, where it eventually caught the attention of Wang Qifeng, who now goes by the name Kang Ying.

The now 28-year-old mum-of-two was left shaken by the similarities between herself and the photo and reached out to Mr Wang.

After they exchanged some text messages, a video chat was set up – and they took a DNA test.

The test ended up showing that Kang was an exact match to the parents.

She had grown up in an adoptive family just 20km, with no recollection of how she ended up there.

But she says that she will be trying to to get back to Chengdu to be closer to her parents.

According to RTÉ, she said:

“It won’t be easy.

“I’ll try hard to get back here, get back to Chengdu and be as close to them, as close as possible.”
