Who says funerals have to be a sad affair?
The final farewell is now a lot more chipper, thanks to the most popular song of choice at a funeral being Monty Python’s ‘Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life’.
The song toppled Frank Sinatra’s ‘I Did It My Way’ off the top spot for the first time in a decade.
A study of songs played at 30,000 funerals showed that ‘funeral chart music’ still include the more traditional hymns with ‘The Lord Is My Shepherd’ featuring in the top 10, but now it’s partnered with Queen’s ‘Don’t Stop Me Now’ and the Match of the Day theme tune…
The study by The Co-operative FuneralCare company also found that an increasing number of self-written, self-composed songs are also being played at funeral services.
But for now, sit back and enjoy one of the tunes from our Monty Python friends (while you still can)…
