Classic Blue: 10 ways to incorporate Pantone's colour of the year into your home in 2020
This week, American colour company Pantone picked the "universal favourite" Classic Blue as its colour of the year for 2020.
The colour, the company explained, brings a "sense of peace and tranquillity to the human spirit, offering refuge," something we all are in dire need of these days, especially as we are getting ready to head into a whole new decade.
According to Pantone, Classic Blue is already being used in fashion, interior design, textiles and graphic design.
And when you think about it, this is really not all that surprising, considering the colour really is everywhere already. It is the colour of the night sky, the colour of the ocean on a blustery day, the colour of blueberries, of Greek rooftops and of rivers, lakes and oceans.
"A boundless blue evocative of the vast and infinite evening sky, Pantone 19-4052 Classic Blue encourages us to look beyond the obvious to expand our thinking; challenging us to think more deeply, increase our perspective and open the flow of communication," said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of Pantone Color Institute.
"We are living in a time that requires trust and faith," she added. "It is this kind of constancy and confidence that is expressed by Pantone 19-4052 Classic Blue, a solid and dependable blue hue we can always rely on."
And it's easy to see why this will no doubt be a really popular colour when it comes to interiors over the coming year. Classic Blue can work in any space, and the shade, which sits somewhere in between navy, royal blue, and denim—can be punchy and bold or it can be cool and calming, depending on how you style it.
