Yessss kween!
When it comes to diversity, the fashion industry hasn't exactly had a good record. Tall, thin, white, and able-bodied women have been the beauty norm for years and although this stereotype still persists, the horizons are broadening.
Case in point, the stunning Iris Apfel.
Iris is a 97-year-old style icon and she's just been signed by one of the most prestigious modelling agencies in the world - IMG.
With 1.2 million followers on Instagram, the Queens native has an incredible sense of style. Her outfits are fun, colourful and elaborate and she lives by the motto:
"More is more and less is a bore."
In 2005 she became the first living person who wasn’t a designer to have her clothing and accessories made into an exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The exhibit was called "Rara Avis (Rare Bird): The Irreverent Iris Apfel". Iris has also had a
documentary made about her.
Oh, and she even has her own emojis. Released a couple of years ago, Iris didn't quite understand the hype although she was none the less pleased:
"I’m a little old for emojis and I didn’t know what they were, but everyone seems to like them, and I want everyone to have a good time.
"If my face makes people happy, I’m all for it."
With her signature oversized glasses, red lips and snow-white hair, Iris proves standing out is often better than fitting in.
