Strike A Pose! Move Over Anna Wintour, We’ve Our Sights Set On NYFW

The actual DREAM.

Cathy Donohue

Budweiser’s DreamBig campaign has us doing just that…

I got my first part-time job at 13, purely to finance my shopping habit.

The obsession with clothes started at an early age and it hasn’t waned since. Even now, I struggle to see what’s in my wardrobe (s) because they’re so crammed.

My job allows me to merge my love of fashion with my passion for writing but there is a part of me that wants to learn about all facets of the fashion industry.

I covered London Fashion Week for Her.ie and LOVED every second of it with the experience teaching me to think bigger.

As well as writing about the new season collections, I’d give anything to have a hand in styling a show in one of the fashion capitals because, for me, that would be the actual dream.

New York Fashion Week is a huge event in the global style calendar and it kicks off fashion month every season with designers such as Victoria Beckham, Monique Lhuillier, Tommy Hilfiger and Jenny Packham showcasing their forthcoming designs.

Only editors from huge publications and bloggers with millions of followers get access to these events but the title of this piece is to dream big so that’s exactly what I’m doing.

To assist with styling a show and somehow bag a front row seat to watch the show alongside Anna Wintour (American Vogue editor), Nina Garcia (previously Elle and Marie Claire), Alexa Chung (who has a Mulberry named after her – HELLO) and Aimee Song (influential blogger) would quite literally, blow my mind.

The opportunity to see how a production of this scale is conducted would be such an amazing experience and while I’m thinking big, we’ll throw in an introduction to Anna. Although to be fair, it’s not like I’d be able to utter a single word when face to face with the first lady of fashion.

As for picking one show, I’m not sure I can. VB’s slick minimalist designs, princess dresses from Vera Wang and Reem Acra, androgynous chic at Calvin Klein and feminine quirky pieces from Alice + Olivia…each show has been a labour of love for the designer involved and it’s a spectacle like no other.

Being able to say I attended a show at NEW YORK FASHION WEEK (shouty capitals for effect), helped style a show and sat front row would be one of my great ambitions ticked off. A dream so big, I get sweaty palms and butterflies even thinking about it.
