The Sunday Times has released its list of the top 100 schools in Ireland today and it’s very good news indeed for Munster.
For the second year running, all-girls school Laurel Hill in Limerick city has taken the top honours.
Cork claimed spots two and three, with all-boys school Presentation Brothers College and all-girls school Scoil Mhuire making the grade.
Single-sex schools dominated the top ten, with number nine on the list, Coláiste Na Coiribe in Galway, the highest-ranking mixed school on the list.
Kate Butler of The Sunday Times said: “Munster has generally being doing extremely well. Even though it has half the population of Leinster, it has almost as many schools in our top 100.
“It’s a really impressive punching above its weight. You see that in our top three – you have the Limerick school and the two schools located pretty close to each other in Cork city.”
Limerick’s Laurel Hill is the only non-fee-paying school to top the table in the past 10 years.
