It sounds so simple...

There’s nothing worse than a phone with zero battery life.

You’ll pop down the shops, listen to some tunes, snap a few pics, and by the time you’re home you’ll be sticking your phone on charge again.

It’s a nightmare trying to go anywhere without a portable charger – we’d even consider just buying a new phone.

But instead of wasting all that money, according to research, we can actually just delete a few specific apps (or stop them from running in the background) and our batteries won’t drain as quickly.

A new study using over 3 million Android devices has shown what the top “draining” apps are for Android users.

And some of them might surprise you.

Up at number one is Samsung AllShare, affecting your phone’s performance the most.

Second is ChatON: Voice and Video Chat, third is Samsung’s Push Service, and fourth is Google TalkBack.

Google continues to make appearances down the list, with Google Maps, Google Plus, and Google Play Music all considerably affecting the performances of Andriod phones.

Most of these apps come preinstalled on Android devices and run in the background even when we think we’re not using them.

This could drastically affect a phone’s battery life, as well as its performance in general.

The study also considered which apps most affected an Android’s data usage, storage, and battery life.

Facebook topped the list in terms of storage and data usage, with Instagram coming in second.

The likes of WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, and Google Chrome also made appearances on the list.

Avast, the group who conducted the research, recommend that Android users turn off notifications, restrict background app refresh features, and turn off location services to conserve battery and improve performance.

They also said to ensure that the phone’s WiFi, Bluetooth,  and GPS settings are only switched on when needed.
