Kinsale named one of best places to retire in Europe by luxury travel magazine

This little Irish town is right up there with the best of them.

The Cork town of Kinsale has been listed by a luxury travel magazine as one of the best places in Europe to retire, and it’s easy to see why.

That’s right, Travel & Leisure’s Patricia Doherty included Kinsale as one of the destinations on her list, which evaluated locations across a number of different criteria.

Doherty considered several factors in compiling her list, including cost of living, environment and lifestyle. She also took retirement logistics into consideration.

It might not come as a surprise for many Kinsale locals to see this coastal town on Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way make the cut.

In her write-up, Doherty acknowledges some of Kinsale’s many desirable qualities as a retirement destination:

“Situated on the southern coast of the Republic of Ireland, Kinsale is a historic town with beaches, marinas, a yacht club, fishing, and diving. For retirees who enjoy the outdoors, this could be an ideal spot.”

She continued: “Cycling, hiking, horseback riding, and strolling through the quaint town are favorite pastimes.”

Furthermore, Doherty refers to Old Head as “one of the country’s most beautiful golf courses.”

The fact that the local language is English also makes it particularly attractive to American retirees.

Moreover, the article speaks highly of the excellent array of culinary options on offer in this Cork town:

“Foodies will appreciate the restaurants, fresh seafood, and perhaps even cooking classes at the Kinsale Gourmet Academy.”

Additionally, the Travel & Leisure writer gives a shutout to the town’s long coastline and mild weather.

Indeed, this small Cork town was right up there with some of the hottest tourist destinations. The Algarve in Portugal and Alicante in Spain were top of the list.

Other coveted retirement destinations on the list include Bordeaux, Budapest, Malta, Prague, Split in Croatia and Ljubljana in Slovenia.
