And 1 in 5 of us know someone impacted by it. MND is a life-limiting disease that takes away the ability to move, speak, and even breathe independently. But while there is no cure, there is hope—and you can be part of it.
As IMNDA marks 40 years of service, Drink Tea for MND carries a deeply personal meaning for ambassadors Tony Ryan and Amanda Lillis. Tony, a devoted father of four, was diagnosed with MND in April 2022 at just 48 years old. Now, as he prepares to turn 50, his family faces daily challenges that most people don’t have to think twice about.
“For Tony, the hardest part is losing his independence,” Amanda explains. “The IMNDA has been our greatest support. From providing vital equipment to offering emotional reassurance, they’ve been by our side every step of the way.”
MND often goes unseen, making simple daily experiences unexpectedly difficult. Amanda recalls the humiliation of being told Tony couldn’t bring someone into a fitting room to assist him. “People don’t always realise the struggles we face,” she says. “That’s why awareness is just as important as fundraising.”
This March, you can help families like Tony and Amanda’s by taking part in Drink Tea for MND—one of IMNDA’s most vital fundraisers.
