6 of the biggest hair style trends for summer 2021

Sarah McKenna Barry

If you’re looking for hair inspiration, you’ve come to the right place.

It’s been a funny old year for our tresses, hasn’t it?

Lockdown saw us abandon our straighteners, our curlers and our regular washing schedules. We even played hairdressers at home, and results were varied, to say the least.

Pandemic hair is, hopefully, a thing of the past. With salons open for business – and restrictions gradually easing – it’s the perfect time to think about your next chop for the months ahead.

1. Blunt Ends

After a year of letting our hair grow, it makes sense that blunt ends are popular. This look sees your tresses chopped sharply, and at one length for an uber precise look.

2. French Balayage

If you’ve heard these two words together a lot over the past few weeks, then you’re not alone. Set to be the colour trend of the season, French Balayage involves the stylist hand-painting colour into your hair with sweeping strokes, which leads to a relaxed Parisian look.

3. The Modern Rachel

Yes, that’s right, the Rachel is back! This layered hairstyle was super popular throughout the ’90s, but it’s enjoying some resurgence – possibly due to the Friends reunion – and we’re not complaining.

4. The Wolf Cut

This look is hugely popular right now, and we can see why. The Wolf Cut consists of shorter mullet-style layers at the front and heavier sides that taper off. Absolutely stunning.

5. Curtain bangs

The Rachel isn’t the only hairstyle on this list dripping with nostalgia – curtain bangs are back as well! Once the go-to look for ’90s boy-bands, a number of celebrities from Georgia May Jagger to Jennifer Lopez have been snapped rocking these bangs.

6. Visible Roots

What began as a natural side-effect of salon closure became a lockdown trend, and it’s not going away anytime soon. Conveniently, visible roots are still bang on trend.
