“Everyone and anyone can wear wigs”: Meet the Irish Black-owned business featured on Love Island

Sarah McKenna Barry

“My goal is to put Ireland on the map for creatives.”

FreeBornNoble Hair, a Dublin based wigs and extension company, is being praised for their excellent styling work on this year’s Love Island.

The company supplied islander Kaz Kamwi with some gorgeous wigs during her time in the villa, but their history with the hugely popular reality series goes back further.

“Two years ago, we made a wig for Yewande going into the villa,” FreeBornNoble’s Camillat Mashaun tells Her. “She only had one wig going in.”

Soon, a makeup artist on the show reached out to Camillat and asked her to send another wig in, which she did along with instructions on how to wear it. Camillat stayed in touch with the makeup artist, who subsequently asked her to be part of the hair-styling team for this year’s show.

“It was unbelievable,” Camillat says. “I can’t thank her enough.”

Beyond her work with Love Island, FreeBornNoble Hair is a thriving, Black-owned business in Dublin committed to sourcing hair extensions, wigs and more.

Camillat initially got started by creating content on social media where she would share wigs and the various ways to style them. From there, it gained momentum and she soon established a business of her own.

While the wig industry is relatively small in Ireland, Camillat explains that there is certainly no shortage of talent, particularly in hair.

“My goal is to put Ireland on the map for creatives, especially in the hair industry,” she says. “We have so many amazing hair stylists here. Wigs are relatively new, and I would love to teach stylists about wigs – how to make them, how to customise them, how to make them look natural.”

She continues: “Everyone and anyone can wear wigs. It doesn’t matter if you’re African, Black or white. It’s a way of expressing yourself and changing your looks when you want to.”

Right now, Camillat hopes to grow her business even further.

“I want to be able to expand to a wider audience, not just in Ireland, but around the world.”
