You know that scene in Sex and the City where Carrie and Burger are discussing what she thinks about his book and she bursts out that no grown woman with an ounce of sartorial sense would be seen dead in a scrunchie? Bet you scoffed with her, nodding to yourself, thinking, “Ooh, we’re so alike”, “She’s dead right” and/or “I would never wear a scrunchie again.”
Well, if you did, you may have to eat your words because scrunchies are back and they’re supposedly the must have hair accessory of the season.
Back in the late 80s and early 90s they were acceptable... just. But, when you think about the overall look back then – mahoosive hair, baggy, oversized silk shirts and woeful denim jackets – they kind of worked. Everything was horrendous. So, why the sudden surge of interest in their revival?

The 'Zoe' scrunchie from My Crazy Scrunchie London
Like most trends, scrunchies have been enjoying a bit of a rebirth in London’s uber hip East End. From Cara Delevingne to a small selection of fashion bloggers, the previously scorned scrunchie is now being worn with pride all over the four major fashion weeks and we have London designers My Crazy Scrunchie to thank for it!
We’re all for the 90s revival creeping its way back into our wardrobes – Doc Martens, lumberjack shirts, denim cut offs - but the scrunchie? Well, it’s just a step too far.
But, if you disagree with us and are dying to emulate the East End, My Crazy Scrunchie ships to Ireland, prices start at €13.86 and you can check out their collection online at www.msclondon.com
