The technique, which Kristen refers to as tapping, involves both a curling iron and a flat iron.

You start off by using a curling iron and then, she uses a flat iron to soften the waves, achieving the effortless undone look.
Tapping can be viewed in the Instagram video below and as Kristen says, avoid excess tapping: "if you quickly tap the curl up and down the head it will soften the wave and flatten it out, just the right amount! Don’t go overboard with tapping, it’s subtle".
Kristen recommends this as the "quickest, easiest" way to perfect a beachy wave and that's going to be super handy first thing in the morning.
