What’s In My Beauty Bag – Beauty Blogger Rachel Farrell Shares Her Secrets

Tips and tricks...right this way.

Cathy Donohue

Pretty packaging, hero products, must-have purchases…make-up is a subject we could spend hours chatting about.

Everyone has their tried and tested buys and in a bid to find out more about the best way to get bang for your buck, we decided it was time to call in a little expertise.

In a new weekly feature, we’re going to quiz beauty bloggers on their make-up essentials and why these are the products they return to time and time again.

This week, we’re chatting to Rachel Farrell of Oh Hey There Rachel.

Like many Irish teenagers, I’m obsessed with makeup and all things beauty. I’ve been interested ever since I was little- when I was younger I’d always ask my mam if I could use her lipstick!
However, it was only when the internet came into my life that the real obsession began.

From beauty blogs to makeup tutorials, the internet certainly helped my addiction grow. As a student,I’ve learnt that you don’t need a lot of money to look good, and most of my favourites are from the high street! Without further ado, here’s what’s (currently) in my beauty bag.

Skin Preparation:

I wholeheartedly believe that makeup applies and looks so much better with a smooth skin base. I’m currently loving the Lush Mask Of Magnaminty, it really clears up any blemishes and leaves my skin feeling so soft.

My current favourite primer is the IsaDora Face Primer because it has SPF30- a Summer essential! It has the consistency of a moisturiser but it really does make my makeup last longer. You can read my full skincare routine on my blog here.

Face:

I find it really hard to find a foundation that I really love, but I recently purchased the Bourjois Healthy Mix foundation and I adore it! The coverage is medium but it leaves my skin looking bright and fresh, and it fades quite evenly too.

My all-time favourite concealer is, without doubt, the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer. Not only is it cheap as chips, but they even have a shade light enough for my pale skin- bonus!

The NYX Liquid Illuminator is my favourite liquid highlighter, and I usually apply the highlighter from the IsaDora Face Sculptor palette for an added glow. The bronzer in the IsaDora palette is perfect for contouring too.

To apply my foundation, I use the Real Techniques Expert Face brush. Real Techniques are one of my favourite brush brands, but I also love EcoTools and Crownbrush. I picked up this P.S Love Pressed Powder on a whim in Penneys not too long ago, but I’ve been using it every day since. It’s perfect for keeping any shininess at bay and it’s so handy to just throw into your handbag too.

Eyes:

I have a slight eyeshadow palette obsession- I can’t help but buy more, even though I have loads. My Urban Decay Naked palette is the one I use the most, though. I love how vibrant the shades are- they last so long and blend easily too. Sometimes I’ll apply a cream eyeshadow as a base, and lately I’ve been reaching for this MAC Paint Pot in the shade ‘Let Me Pop’. It’s a beautiful copper-gold shade that’s perfect for Summer.

Winged eyeliner is a trademark of mine, and honestly, I feel naked without it! I’ve been using the Essence liquid liner for years despite trying many other ones, both high-street and high end. It’s so easy to apply and lasts all day. As for mascara, lately I’ve been using the Rimmel Kate mascara and I love how thick it makes my lashes.

Lips:

On to my favourite beauty products is lipstick. I’ve tried so many brands over the past few years, but MAC lipsticks are my all-time favourites. I usually go for a red, a berry or a nude lip! I recently bought MAC Ruby Woo, a favourite amongst many celebrities, and it’s easy to see why. It’s a retro matte finish meaning it’s very dry, but I love a good matte lip!

My favourite nude lipstick is MAC Velvet Teddy, which is rumoured to be one of Kylie Jenner’s favourites. If you like a 90’s brown lip, I can’t recommend this one enough. I also adore Wet N Wild’s Megalist lipsticks, particularly the shade ‘Mauve Outta Here’. They’re a great alternative to MAC lipsticks and only €2.99 too! I’m not a huge lip-gloss fan, if I’m honest, but I am obsessed with the NYX Butterglosses. They’re not sticky at all, and they smell so lovely too.
