Irish author Louise O'Neill will publish her new novel Whatever Happened to Madeline Stone? next April.
The Cork writer confirmed the news on Instagram this week, and we couldn't be more excited.
O'Neill confirmed her novel will be released on April 9th, 2026.
Set between 2002 and 2025, her new book follows twin sisters who grew up together as child stars - until one vanished at the height of her fame.
Two decades later, the surviving sister is forced to step back into the spotlight and face everything she’s spent her life running from.
O'Neill said, "This is a tale of sisters, ambition, and the price of fame, but also of hope, redemption, and taking back control of your life. I can’t wait for you to read it and to take a deep dive with me into the horrors of the early 00s, not just for the famous women at the centre of the stories, but for all of us watching."
She quipped, "P.S.- yes, I am SHOOK that Lily Allen made Madeline the name of the season. The serendipity!"
O'Neill has to be one of our favourite Irish authors, so knowing she's releasing a new novel in 2026 fills us with such joy.
Her novel isn't the only book O'Neill will be releasing in 2026. The author has also written her first memoir, which will be published in September 2026.
Her memoir is titled A Bigger Life, and it's one of our most highly anticipated releases of 2026.
According to The Bookseller, the memoir follows O’Neill after the unexpected collapse of her long-term relationship.
She “embarks on an audacious dating experiment across cities such as Paris, London, and New York, blending humour, heartache, and sexual liberation”.
