So what can the 300 million monthly users expect?
Ditching their former 640 x 640 dimensions, which often see your favourite pictures take a chop, the social media app will now register images of up to 1080 x 1080 pixels.
It's believed the move in picture quality is to reflect the advancements in smartphone cameras since the app was originally launched in 2010.
Although the Facebook owned app has yet to release a date for their latest move, the update is rolling out across Instagram slowly with new images uploaded to the platform already being accepted in the higher resolution.
Unfortunately for those who’d like to see an edit to the portrait of the shots, the pictures will still be square when displayed.Explore more on these topics:
