Will you be making the edit to your job applications?

We all know that when it comes to applying for that dream job, we want every trick in the book to work in our favour.

Whether it’s using fancy language, (although PLEASE avoid those buzz words), or including a snap on the right-hand side of your CV, the latest research might be the extra tick in a box to push you ahead of the other candidates.

According to writer and filmmaker Errol Morris, you just need to use the Baskerville font to persuade people to your way of thinking.

Posting an online test with the New York Times designed to deem whether a reader was an optimist or pessimist, the test was generated in a number of fonts with more than 45,000 people answering the rounds online.

The online readers were then asked to read a passage from the book The Beginning of Infinity, and asked to agree or disagree with the statement “we are living in an era of unprecedented safety”.

The test found that those who answered the text in Baskerville were viewed as more optimistic and agreeable to the test and survey, taking the time to read more diligently and have a positive outlook following the exercise.

The ‘least agreeable’ fonts were named as Helvetica and Comic Sans.

So while it’s just as important to proof read that CV and earn those qualifications, it couldn’t hurt to try out a new font as well.
