Facebook Will Soon Be Able To Alert You If Someone Is Impersonating Your Account

It's all in an effort to curb online harassment.

Facebook is testing a new feature that will alert users if it detects someone using their profile photo and/or name.

According to Mashable, it will send you an alert notifying you about the profile in question and you’ll then be prompted to identify it and say whether it belongs to someone who coincidentally has the same name as you, or if the person in question is using your identity for potentially sinister reasons.

The feature has been in testing since November, and is now live in almost three-quarters of the world.

Impersonation is a source of harassment on the site, despite the company’s longstanding policy against it.

Antigone Davis, Head of Global safety said that this is a point of concern for women in particular, and she hopes that the new feature will help female users feel safer using the platform.
