Twitter is doing everything in its power to attract new users to the site, to help kickstart new people using it and give its flagging influence something of a boost.
Last November, the company announced they were changing the ‘fave’ to a ‘like’ and replacing the much-loved star symbol with a heart. They also announced that they were considering a much longer character limit for tweets (10,000 characters) last month.
Now the company have released a statement announcing a big change to their timeline that involves the use of algorithms to switch things up a little.
There will now be a new timeline feature in your settings that you can select called ‘Show me the best Tweets first’, and the tweets that are most relevant to you and what you care about will be displayed at the top of your timeline.
Don’t worry though, as your timeline will look the same underneath as always with tweets appearing in reverse-chronological order.
Starting today you can choose to try our new feature, so you’ll never miss important Tweets from people you follow: https://t.co/fS1axkDiUh

This might be a good way to get the general idea of what goes on in a day on Twitter if you don’t have time to check, but it would be interesting if we were given information on how the algorithm actually decides what tweets are most important for certain individuals to see.
At the minute it’s still opt-in, but will be rolled out to every user as updates continue.
