The retailer has said that they are in the process of removing the counterfeit goods.

Just days after the death of cancer campaigner Deborah James, the retailer Amazon has issued an apology after fake charity t-shirts in her name appeared on site.

James, who was diagnosed with bowel cancer several years ago, dedicated her time to the BowelBabe campaign, which raised awareness about the disease, as well as funds for numerous cancer charities.

The Dame sold merchandise to support the cause, and her wares included slogans that read ‘Rebellious Hope’. However, as Metro reports, just hours after her death, counterfeit merchandise which had the same slogans began to appear on Amazon.

These products were listed as costing between £12.50 and £16.99.

James’ official merchandise can only be purchased through the In The Style website.

Since the issue was brought to the attention of Amazon, the retailer has issued an apology which was shared with Metro.

It read: “Like many, we were saddened to hear of Dame Deborah James’ passing

“We’re in the process of removing all products that make any suggestion of a link with Dame Deborah James or the related charities and apologise for any distress caused.”

Ms James sadly passed away earlier this week.

In a statement, her family shared that she had died peacefully surrounded by loved ones at home.

A post shared on her social media read: “We are deeply saddened to announce the death of Dame Deborah James; the most amazing wife, daughter, sister, mummy. Deborah passed away peacefully today, surrounded by her family.

“Deborah, who many of you will know as Bowelbabe, was an inspiration and we are incredibly proud of her and her work and commitment to charitable campaigning, fundraising and her endless efforts to raise awareness of cancer that touched so many lives.

“Deborah shared her experience with the world to raise awareness, break down barriers, challenge taboos and change the conversation around cancer. Even in her most challenging moments, her determination to raise money and awareness was inspiring.”
