The Telegraph reports that the incident in question occurred when paparazzo Gaetano Di Giovanni was taking pictures of the supermodel with her then-boyfriend Vladimir Doronin while  the couple were holidaying in Sicily.

When the photographer followed the pair, Naomi hit him with her handbag. According to the law suit, the bag scratched Di Giovanni’s eye, leading him to seek medical treatment.

Though Campbell’s lawyers were able to secure an agreement with the photographer, leading him to withdraw charges, Italian prosecutor Francesco Massara ordered the trial go ahead anyway, saying it was in the public interest given the intensity of the charges.
