Actress Jennifer Lawrence has been forced to defend herself after a tattoo on her arm sparked a lot of debate online.

The Hunger Games star got a tattoo of the chemical formula for water on her hand, but fans have hit out at the design saying that it is inaccurate.

“I call this tattoo a watered down rebellion because it’s not like a real tattoo,” the actress said.

“I know that the two is high and in H2O the two is supposed to be low,” she explained.

“I should have Googled it before I got it tattooed on my body forever,” she added to reporters at Comic-Con over the weekend.

“I was like, ‘Well I’m always going to need to be hydrated, so I guess I should just get H2O on my hand’.

“It’s the colour of a scar, all natural so it’s literally the most unrebellious tattoo that anybody could ever get.”

It was later revealed that she had in fact got the tattoo last year
