Kanye West makes $2 million donation, sets up college fund for George Floyd’s daughter

An incredible gesture.

Kanye West is never one to sit back and stay quiet when it comes to politics in the US.

The rapper has also always been quite philanthropic with his fortune, so it comes as no surprise that he has donated over two million dollars to black resistance efforts and offered to cover the legal fees for the families of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor.

CNN reports that West also launched a college fund for George Floyd’s daughter, Gianna, to cover her tuition.

The rapper joined protesters marching in his hometown of Chicago this week after making his donation.

This comes after the rapper, who is usually very vocal online, was criticised on Twitter by a few critics who called him out for being quiet during the Black Lives Matter protests.

No official statement has been released as of yet from the mogul himself, with the details of his donation released to the press via his representative this week.

They confirmed that over two million dollars will assist various black-owned businesses in cities around the US.

Kanye has stayed pretty quiet during the week, but wife Kim Kardashian has since made a public statement on Instagram, where she expressed her pain about the events.

“Not today, not anymore,” she said. “Like so many of you, I am angry. I am more than angry. I am infuriated and I am disgusted.

“I am exhausted by the heartbreak I feel seeing mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers and children suffering because their loved one was murdered or locked away unjustly for being black.”

Other celebrities who have donated to the Black Lives Matter movement include The Weeknd, Chrissy Teigen and husband John Legend, and Billie Eilish.
