Despite being half of Kimye and holding what was considered one of the biggest celebrity weddings of the year, Kanye West believed some people “don’t understand” or accept his relationship with Kim Kardashian.
The rapper believes the relationship is misunderstood as a result of their different races. The pair, who married last month, had their first child North West in 2013.
However, the outspoken 'Yeezus' singer said at the Cannes Lions festival that they need to rise above negative abuse they face as a couple:
"I don't write self-help books or anything like that...You have to be able to take the lashes when people don't understand.
"Two years of people not understanding an interracial relationship, two years of people not understanding the idea of the art world meets the pop world, you have to take the lash and be able to swim in the backlash."
It seems that the critics are far from having the last laugh, with Kim posting a series of Instagram snaps including a birthday post for husband Kanye, and a family portrait from her wedding day with Kanye and baby North West.
