Speaking to Bear Grylls ahead of his new NBC show Running Wild With Bear Grylls, the 39-year old said:
"When I grew up, I never heard positive reinforcement about body image from any female in my life - I only heard negatives.
"That's very damaging, because then you're programmed as a young woman to immediately scrutinise yourself and how you look."
The Oscar-winning actress decided to make a conscious effort to change that for her daughter Mia, and works hard to instil a positive healthy body image in the teen.
Rather than getting caught up in a celebrity ideal, Kate revealed she regularly turns to her 14-year old daughter and points out all her daughter’s positives:
"I stand in front of the mirror and say to Mia, 'We are so lucky we have a shape. We're so lucky we're curvy. We're so lucky we've got good bums,' and she'll say, 'Mummy, I know, thank God'."Explore more on these topics:
