Kerry Katona ‘heartbroken’ over daughter Molly’s move to Ireland

Katie Mythen-Lynch

Kerry Katona has shared her heartbreak over her eldest daughter’s decision to move to Ireland.

Molly (15), the eldest daughter of the ex-Atomic Kitten singer and her ex Brian McFadden, will be leaving her family in the UK to live with her grandparents in Dublin’s Artane while she focuses on her education.

Her sisters Lilly, 14, Heidi, 10, Dylan-Jorge, 3 and brother Max, 9, will remain with Kerry and her partner George Kay in Surrey.

Speaking to OK! magazine, the mother-of-five, who recently revealed she is trying for a sixth child with her partner George Kay, explained that the decision came about after Molly set her sights on a career as a surgeon.

She said: ‘Molly wants to be a surgeon. She wants to get really good grades in her GCSEs so she’s going to Ireland to do a transition year. This will give her an extra year of biology and sciences.

‘She will be massively homesick. But I’ve told her that I think that it’s the right thing to do. Her mind is like a sponge and just soaks everything up.’

Molly will be looked after by Brian McFadden’s parents Mairead and Brendan, who Kerry says ‘dote on her’.

While the family has agreed it’s the best solution for Molly’s future, Kerry said it hasn’t been easy to come to terms with the decision:

‘I have a few down days about it already.’ she told the magazine. ‘But I don’t want to be the one holding my daughter back from furthering her education. Knowing Molly she will be back every weekend!’
