Laura Whitmore addresses negative Love Island comments
"I'm doing my job well, and I'm being professional."
Laura Whitmore has responded to some of the "exhausting" comments she has received as the host of the hugely popular reality series Love Island.
Laura made the comments during a recent appearance on the Distraction Pieces Podcast.
She began by explaining that her role on the show is actually quite small, but that she still attracts a huge amount of attention, as well as some "unfair" comments.
"The host only comes on three to four times," she said. "It's always been the way, but it gets the most attention. It's a bit exhausting and it's tough."
Laura said that she remembered how Caroline Flack used to receive a lot of negative comments as well.
"I never knew how she handled it," Laura said. "I always thought, 'Jesus she's so strong.' And people aren't as strong as you think they are.
"It's scary when you start, you get the exact same stuff that she got like, 'Where's the presenter? They're never in there.' I get that some of it you have to take with a pinch of salt, but then some of it is a bit exhausting."
Laura reflected on the changes she's seen in the way she's talked about at various points in her life.
"I know I've been talked about a bit differently whenever I was single to then suddenly having a child."
She pointed to how her male counterparts are never held to the same standard.
"No one's talking about what they're wearing," she said. "They're not getting this. I'm doing my job. That's the most important thing and I'm doing my job well and I"m being professional.
"Meanwhile, the outside world will talk about how you look, what you're wearing, who you're dating, do you have a child, should you be doing this and all these things that are talked about constantly."
