Lily Collins reveals she threw a toy telephone at Prince Charles’ head

A royal mess.

Lily Collins might be more like her on screen alter-ego Emily Cooper than we first thought, as she has admitted she often finds herself in awkward and funny social situations – some even involving the Royal family.

Chatting with James Corden on The Late Late Show, Lily was shown a photo of herself handing a bouquet of flowers to Princess Diana and asked if she remembered the amazing moment.

While she was too young to remember being there, she knows one thing – she did not want to share those flowers with the Princess of Wales.

“I’ve been told this is what happened. That’s my mom, and dad and I at The Prince’s Trust event, and I’m giving Diana flowers. But the second that she went to take them, I then tried to pull them back.

“So as you can imagine all the air was sucked out of the room.”

She then added that she was way too adorable at the time to get in trouble: “I was wearing a cute dress so who is going to punish me there?”

Her tormenting of the Royal family didn’t stop there though. The actress went on to admit that in another incident, her toddler self threw a toy telephone at Prince Charles’ head.

“When I was younger I was playing with some toys with Prince Charles, and I proceeded to kind of throw something at him, like throw a toy telephone at his head which, again, all the air was sucked out of the room.”

Lily was introduced to the family as a child through her father, musician Phil Collins, who did a lot of work with The Prince’s Trust charity.

“My dad did a lot of stuff with the Prince’s Trust so and I grew up in England, I’m British,” she said. “I just went along for the ride and I guess I had a tendency to do naughty things as a two-year-old!”
