‘Miscommunication’ Mel B defends calling Tesco out for using her image in ad campaign

“There was NEVER any issue about me being unhappy with my image being used.”

Mel B has defended her decision to publicly call out Tesco online after her image was used by them in an ad campaign.

The Spice Girls singer had urged CEO Dave Lewis to contact her “URGENTLY” after she spotted the ad using a 1997 image of her to promote their Clubcard Plus.

It later transpired that Tesco had been authorised to use the image, but due to Mel’s complaint they removed it from circulation.

The 44-year-old has since clarified her reasons for calling Tesco out, saying that there was a “miscommunication” between herself and the brand.

“For the record, I just want to let everyone know about my Tesco Clubcard Plus involvement because there has been soo much fuss about it and soo many unfounded rumours,” she said on Instagram.

“There was NEVER any issue about me being unhappy with my image being used and there was NEVER any issue about Tesco being given permission to use the image.”

Mel B went on to say that she allowed the image to be used to raise awareness and funds for domestic abuse charity Women’s Aid.

She said that unfortunately some wires got crossed but thankfully, “Tesco have been amazing.”

“I’m really pleased that Tesco understands how important Women’s Aid is to me, and has agreed to match my fee in donation to the charity,” she said.

“This money is a game-changer for them. It will keep their live chat line running for the next six months and all over Christmas.

“This service literally saves lives. One in four women are affected by domestic violence. I am never going to stop trying to help. Thank you Tesco.”
