Phillip Schofield's This Morning runner admits he was "paid off" by ITV

Phillip resigned from This Morning this month.

The runner that Phillip Schofield admitted to having an "inappropriate" affair with has reportedly said he was "paid off" by ITV.

Following Phil's resignation last week and after he admitted to lying about this said affair, some of his former co-stars have voiced their thoughts on the situation.

Phil met the runner when he was 15 and once he turned 18, the affair began, which the presenter said was "unwise but not illegal".

The Daily Mail has now reported that the man who Phillip admitted to having an affair with was given a payment by ITV once the relationship ended.

He was moved to work on Loose Women from This Morning once the romance ended, with Eamonn Holmes describing it as the "promotion" he had not asked for.

Sources have now told the publication that the runner was given a financial settlement by ITV, but the broadcaster has refused to comment on this.

An insider has claimed that someone in a senior position at ITV knew about the payment as it needed "people of some seniority" to sign off it.

This comes after Eamonn spoke on GB News on Monday night, saying it was a "total cover up".

He said: "Those in authority had to know what was going on and they thought they would dodge a bullet with this.

"Which they do, and they do constantly, because with Schofield talking about those who speak out against him, namely me, Amanda Holden and you (Dan Wootton), you’ll be included in the toxicity that goes on. Dr Ranj, of course, as well.

"And you simply sit there and think 'No mate, you’ve had it all your way for too long'."

He also said that he doesn't think Holly Willoughby will return to present This Morning.

Holly is on mid-term holidays at the moment but is set to return to work on June 5th, next Monday.

However, speculation is swirling that she won't come back to her role as host.

Eamonn said: "Not only should Phillip go, but Holly should follow him close out the door."
