And it was a lot less extravagant.
The princess's wedding dress designers, David and Elizabeth Emanuel, told the publication that they were pretty scared of the dress leaking to the press before the big day, they had another one designed just in case.
They said:
[caption id="attachment_419643" align="aligncenter" width="594"]“At the time we wanted to make absolutely sure that the dress was a surprise.
“We didn’t try it on Diana. We never even discussed it.We wanted to make sure that we had something there; it was for our own peace of mind, really.”

This second dress was made from the same silk material, but didn't include the iconic antique lace that filled the princess's arms and the hundreds of pearls and sequins that covered the garment.
Significantly less lavish, so.
As it turns out though, we're never going to get to see what this second backup dress actually looked like because David and Elizabeth dumped all the sketches they made of both dresses.
