We cannot wait for this.

Irish actress Nicola Coughlan’s career has been going from strength to strength since she burst onto our screens as Clare Devlin in 2018’s Derry Girls, and she’s shown no signs of stopping any time soon.

This weekend, she shared that she has a role in one of 2023’s most anticipated films – Greta Gerwig’s Barbie the Movie.

On Instagram, Nicola shared the film’s poster, as well as a trailer for the film, which shows little girls saying goodbye to the baby dolls after meeting a giant Barbie (Margot Robbie).

In her caption, Nicola shared her excitement.

She wrote: “Thank you Greta Gerwig for having me as a tiny part of what I think is the greatest movie ever made.

“See you all in #BarbieTheMovie from director Greta Gerwig, only in theatres Summer 2023.”

Several of Nicola’s famous friends congratulated her on her involvement in the production, including RuPaul’s Drag Race judge Michelle Visage, who wrote, “Can’t wait.”

Nicola is one of the many stars appearing in the already star-studded film. Ryan Gosling is taking on the role of Ken, and other stars involved in the project include Will Ferrell, America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon, Emma Mackey, Michael Cera, Emerald Fennell, Simu Liu, Issa Rae and Hard Nef.

Earlier this year, Barbie’s leading lady Margot Robbie suggested that fans would be pleasantly surprised by the film.

“We like the things that feel a little left of centre,” she said. “Something like Barbie where the intellectual property, the name itself… people immediately have an idea of, ‘Oh, Margot is playing Barbie, I know what that is.’

“But our goal is to be like: ‘Whatever you’re thinking, we’re going to give you something totally different – the thing you didn’t know you wanted.'”
