Regé-Jean Page reacts to Bridgerton recasting the Duke

Fans of Bridgerton were devastated when Regé-Jean Page announced he wouldn’t be returning for the second series, hearts were broken everywhere.

He has now spoken out about how he would feel if the hit Netflix series were to recast his character.

The actor was best known for his role as the Duke of Hastings in season one, and has welcomed the idea of someone new playing the role.

Speaking candidly to Variety, the actor said: “They’re free to do as they like.”

“Shonda and I had a wonderful conversation at the end of Season 1. We were quite happy with how we’d stuck the landing on that one.

“I’m still proud of how we stuck the landing on that one.”

But the real question burning on everyone’s minds was if he had caught up on the latest series, and much to fans’ disappointment, he admitted that he hadn’t “caught up on it.”

Regé-Jean shut down rumours he was returning to the show last month after he was spotted in Milan with former co-star Jonathan Bailey.

The Sun reported that Regé-Jean could potentially be returning, but the actor shut down the rumours and wrote on Instagram: “No, I’m not going back to the show btw – the papers made that one up.”

After it was announced that he was leaving the show, the told fans on Instagram:“It’s been an absolute pleasure and a privilege to be your Duke.

“Joining this family – not just on screen, but off screen too. Our incredibly creative and generous cast, crew, outstanding fans – it’s all been beyond anything I could have imagined.

“The love is real and will just keep growing.”
