Rose Ayling-Ellis to sign a story on Cbeebies this weekend
Rose will appear on the popular show on Sunday evening.
To mark Deaf Awareness Week, actress Rose Ayling-Ellis will become the first person to sign a story on Cbeebies Bedtime Story.
The actress and Strictly Come Dancing winner will appear on Sunday's episode.
She will sign Can Bears Ski? by Raymond Antrobus and Polly Dunbar.
Rose will tell the story by using British Sign Language.
Can Bears Ski? follows a father and son bear's journey into the discovery and management of deafness.
The official synopsis reads: "Boy Bear cannot hear Dad Bear coming to wake him up in the morning but he can feel the floor vibrate with his heavy footsteps. He can only grasp little bits of what his teacher says to him at school. He cannot catch what his friends are laughing at. And, all the time, Boy Bear keeps hearing the question, 'Can Bears ski?' What does it mean? With the support of Dad Bear, Boy Bear visits an audiologist and, eventually, he gets hearing aids. Suddenly, he understands the question everyone has been asking him: 'CAN YOU HEAR ME?'"
Rose said she cannot wait to take part in the show.
She said: "I am super excited to read my first CBeebies bedtime story in British Sign Language and it’s even more wonderful to share a story written by a deaf writer.
“I hope deaf children enjoy the story and it inspires hearing children to want to learn BSL more."
Parents have praised Cbeebies for including the deaf actress in the show.
One mum wrote, "We cannot wait for this, love Rose and love this story. Thank you @cbeebieshq for sharing the importance of deaf awareness week."
Another added, "Can't wait for this. Rose is such an inspiration."
Rose's episode will air on CBeebies at 6.50 pm on Sunday, May 8th.
