There’s no denying Ryan Gosling is one of the kings of rom-com.
From stealing our hearts in The Notebook to those washboard abs in Crazy, Stupid, Love – we’ve all been swooned by the charms of Ryan Gosling.
But his levels of commitment to the cause were proven when he took on his role in Blue Valentine opposite Michelle Williams.
In an attempt to full immerse themselves in filmmaker Derek Cianfrance’s world, Gosling and Williams and their onscreen daughter lived together as a real family in their characters’ house for one month.
The onscreen family celebrated a fake Christmas, birthdays and family occasions for the month, hoping to build relationships and the feelings of real family ties to take into method acting.
Speaking about the preparation, Gosling said the pair decided on their stint as a family, “so that when it came time to shoot the [last] part of the film, we were drawing on real memories.”
Having spent a solid hour crying after that film ended, we think it’s safe to say the technique really worked.
