Singer JoJo speaks out about the extreme way she was told to lose weight

This is horrible.

Shocking stuff.

Singer JoJo is currently doing some promotion for her upcoming album, Mad Love, which marks her first release in ten years.

The 25-year-old appeared on Entertainment Tonight recently and spoke about what she’s been up to since her first single Leave(Get Out) came out in 2004.

JoJo also opened up about the struggle she’s been through with her previous record label and now certain expectations were made of her.

Horrifically, JoJo, who was only 18 at the time, said that she was told she had to look a certain way in order for her music to do well.

JoJo said:

“So, my music was already being dangled in front of me and they already were saying that, you know, things weren’t gonna happen, so I was like, ‘Oh, if this is gonna make my music come out, then OK”.

The singer elaborated on what she was told to do, explaining that she was told to inject herself with hormones as a weight-loss method while only eating 500 calories a day.

“I was injecting myself with this thing from this dietician that makes it so you’re not hungry, and it tricks your body into thinking you’re pregnant, so then the food that it would give the baby, it ends up, like, expelling.

“I wasn’t even done growing, necessarily, but because I wanted my career to move forward and I was so scared, I did it”.

Speaking to show host Katie Krausse, JoJo went on to explain how this pressure impacted on her, completely destroying her self-esteem.

“It messed with me psychologically because I felt like, ‘How can I maintain this?’ after I got off of it”.

Thankfully, with the support of her fans and releasing music for free online, JoJo emerged stronger than ever and is now signed with a new record company.

She’s back with “a new perspective” and her new single, featuring Wiz Khalifa, is an absolute tune.
