Stephen Gately’s family are to hire a private investigator to look deeper into the singer’s death five years ago.

According to The Irish Sun on Sunday, the family wish to delve deeper into the circumstances surrounding the death of the Boyzone star who died of natural causes back in October of 2009.

The report states that a dispute has broken out between the family and Gately’s husband Andrew Cowles who he married in 2003. It is believed that the dispute is centred on his £1.5 million estate as the singer did not leave a will.

The Sun revealed that Stephen’s brother Tony has said that there are unanswered questions surrounding the Boyzone’s singer’s death after he passed away in Majorca.

Officials cited natural causes as a result of an undetected heart condition as the cause of his death, but the newspaper reports that the family are looking for further details.

“We are looking at getting a private investigator once his estate is settled,” said Tony, adding that they had asked Spanish police to re-open the case.

“At the minute, it looks like Andy is going to get 60 per cent of Stephen’s estate. Our mum and dad will get a fraction but the estate still hasn’t been settled. Our mum is 65 and was hit so hard by Stephen’s death that she has withdrawn into herself. It’s making her health deteriorate.

“Stephen was everything to me. He was my older brother, I looked up to him so much. I had seen him about two months before when I had hugged him after a gig and told him how much I loved him.

“A couple of weeks before I had sent him a text message saying how proud I was. We were so close.

“Only two people really know what went on the night he died. They are his husband Andrew and a Bulgarian guy, Georgi, who was invited to their apartment,” Tony continued. “Neither of them have fully explained to me what happened.”

Tony later added, “Even now we are still not certain what happened and Andy has never opened up to me. A few things about that night don’t make sense. First of all, Stephen was on the couch and that does not seem like him…He loved his comfort, he would never fall asleep on the couch.

“It still plays on my mind. I still ask the questions and go over things…We’ve tried to get to the bottom of it but to no avail. I would love the police to look into it again.”
