Swedish Eurovision commentator made a very cheeky comment about Brooke last night

Fans weren’t happy.

On Thursday evening, we sadly saw Brooke Scullion fail to secure a spot at the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 final.

Performing her song That’s Rich, the Derry native could hear Ole Ole Ole being chanted as she left the stage, but it wasn’t enough to make it to the show on Saturday.

While she didn’t get the result she had hoped for, one very cheeky comment from Sweden’s national broadcaster’s commentator had a few people raising their eyebrows.

After her performance, the commentator didn’t hold back, saying: “She’s trying to be Dua Lipa, but on an Irish budget”.

Of course, Irish Twitter got very defensive, with a few heading to the social media app to show just how unimpressed they were.

One person simply said: “The cheek!”

Another wrote: “The CHEEK of a Swedish commentator saying of Brooke’s performance @Eurovision “She’s trying to be Dua Lipa, but on an Irish budget”. Is it jealousy cos we’ve won more than ANY other country, incl SWEDEN? And btw our ‘Irish budget’ created @Riverdance.”

A third wrote: “Someone send in a heavy to get him.”

Taking to Instagram after the results of the semi final, Brooke thanked fans for their support as she got emotional in a video she posted.

She said: “Ok so it didn’t go our way tonight. We are so, so happy with what we did. It just maybe isn’t for me right now. But maybe in the future, maybe bigger things are going to come.

“I’ve literally got an EP coming out, so who knows? Thank you so much to everyone who voted. I couldn’t have done any more. I’m so happy, so thank you.”

Competing against 17 other European countries – and Australia – the 23 year old lost her slot to Finland, Belgium, Czech Republic, Poland, Estonia, Azerbaijan, Australia, Sweden, Romania and Serbia.
